The Best Port Douglas Accommodation
We book our accommodation mainly through Booking.Com or Stayz (similar to Airbnb). Both these companies have an easy to use booking system and have competitive rates. Booking.Com offers a price guarantee and usually has free cancellation, which we have used several times. You can cancel online with the press of a button with no questions asked (obviously, if these were the terms when booked). I also like that the reviews are real; they publish the good reviews and the bad. Confirmation is instant, and there are no hidden reservation fees.
Apartments in Port Douglas
Retro Port Douglas Apartments are only 200m from the sandy Four Mile Beach. All apartments are air-conditioned, which is a must in the humid Queensland climate. They also come complete with SMEG appliances, induction cooking, and a De Longhi espresso coffee machine (big points from me as I need my morning coffee!). The décor is retro and homely, and the apartments are spotless. The complimentary wine and chocolate in the fridge and the use of an Esky, sunscreen, and beach towels are a lovely touch. I thoroughly recommended them.
Book either through Booking.Com for free cancellation (check terms).
Martinique On Macrossan is just 60 m from Four Mile Beach and set amongst tropical gardens and a saltwater swimming pool. The apartments are air-conditioned and have a kitchenette and balcony. They are ideal for couples as children under 15 years of age cannot be accommodated at this property.

Freestyle Resort Port Douglas contains resort-style apartments about a 15-minute walk from the Port Douglas Marina. The décor and furnishings were a bit dated but have apparently recently been refurbished. The heated saltwater swimming pool is lovely to relax in after a day of sightseeing. Niramaya Villas and Spa have a private plunge pool and patio with a BBQ, set amongst landscaped gardens. The luxurious villas feature an outdoor shower, a bathtub, kitchen, and lounge area. The resort includes a gym, restaurant, bar, and a 30 m infinity pool. I wouldn’t mind being there right now, relaxing in the villa’s outdoor area.

The rooms are the usual hotel standard, and you have the choice of Spa Suites, One, Two, and Three Bedroom Suites with plunge pools or lagoon access. I use different sites to try and get the best possible price for flights.
First I visit matrix.itasoftware.com to get an idea of the cheapest dates, but you can’t book through this site.
Next I compare the cost of flights with Trip.com and try different routes.
I mainly use Booking.com for accommodation as they consistently have the lowest rates with free cancellation on most properties.
To compare rental car company prices, I use Rentalcars.com. They are the world’s biggest car rental site, comparing all main brands including Europcar, Budget, Ace, Hertz, Avis, and Alamo.
Don’t travel anywhere without travel insurance, it’s not worth the risk.
