Downside of Leederville
While Leederville has many attractions, there are potential drawbacks. One drawback is the limited accommodation options within the suburb itself, which can make finding lodging a bit challenging.
Additionally, Leederville’s vibrant nightlife can be a double-edged sword, as it may lead to increased noise levels in the evenings, which could be less appealing to those seeking a quieter atmosphere.
Due to Leederville’s popularity, make reservations ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
Despite these drawbacks, Leederville’s charm continue to make it a popular destination in Perth.
Leederville Accommodation
There isn’t a wide choice of accommodation in Leederville so I would stay in a Perth city hotel. Getting to Leederville from there by train or shared rides is easy.
Historical Background of Leederville
The area where Leederville is situated was originally inhabited by the indigenous Noongar people, who relied on the rich resources of nearby swamps and lakes.
In the late 1820s, William Leeder and John Monger first settled the area around Leederville (from whom the suburb got its name).
Leeder established the Leeder Hotel in 1838 and began to lease his land. With an increased demand for food due to the arrival of more convicts, the surrounding land was used for market gardens, dairy farming, and poultry farms. The development of Leederville began in the late 19th century when overcrowding became a problem in Perth.
Over the years, Leederville has evolved from a small residential settlement into a thriving suburb known for its heritage-listed buildings, restaurants, and nightlife.
