If you are looking for a place to stay near Mandurah, Western Australia, read our Lakeside Apartments South Yunderup review.
We have stayed here three times now (mainly due to Dave participating in trail runs in Dwellingup). It’s in a lovely, quiet spot overlooking a picturesque lake and within walking distance to the Murray River and taverns.
Location of Lakeside Apartments
Lakeside Apartments are only a 10-minute drive from Pinjarra whilst a 20-minute drive from Mandurah. South Yunderup is made up of small canals at the mouth of the Murray River. It’s a popular place for houseboats and you will see many of them up and down the river.
The closest supermarket is the IGA in Austin Lakes which is a 2-minute drive away. It’s well-stocked and the food is fresh. We bought most of our provisions from there.
If you don’t feel like cooking, Jetty’s Bar & Grill is just a stroll down the road with views of the river. Another pub, The Sandy Cove Tavern, is a 2.5km walk which took us around half an hour. The popular Ravenswood Hotel is a 3.5km walk or around a 4-minute drive. So you have plenty of options if you want to dine out.
Lakeside Apartments South Yunderup Review of the Accommodation
There’s a choice of either two-bedroom apartments or three-bedroom villas. We stayed in the two-bedroom apartments, once with lake views and the other times with garden views.
The master bedroom has a Queen bed while the second bedroom has twin beds. They each have their own bathroom too which is very handy.
The kitchen is a good size with an oven, cooktop, fridge, microwave, dishwasher as well as other small appliances. There’s also a washing machine and dryer located in the cupboard in the living area.
The lounge has a TV and DVD player and leads onto a balcony/verandah with seating.
The whole apartment has reverse cycle air conditioning which can be used for heating during the cooler months as well as air-con in the summer.
The apartments are kept clean and have all the facilities, they are just a bit outdated. This is reflected in the price though.
There are two outdoor pools in the complex, one of which is heated. There are also sun loungers around the pools to relax on while the kids play. The barbecues are handy if you don’t want to cook inside and would like to enjoy the lovely weather.
Our daughters enjoyed the Games Room with free air hockey and pool tables. It rained while we were there and it was good to be able to enjoy some fun family time. There’s also a lounge attached to the Games Room with a TV. Free WiFi is available here but only in the Games Room which is a bit annoying.
If you’re feeling energetic, there are tennis courts and some lovely walks close by.
My Thoughts on Lakeside Apartments South Yunderup
Lakeside Apartments South Yunderup represent good value, however they are looking a bit tired now and could do with an upgrade. Since staying here, we have rented a cabin at the Mandurah Caravan and Tourist Park which included heating, air conditioning, bathroom, and a kitchenette. The holiday park is family-friendly with a swimming pool, playground, pedal karts, and jumping pillow.
