Top Restaurants & Cafes in Kalbarri
When it comes to dining in Kalbarri, you’ll find a wonderful mix of relaxed, family-friendly eateries and a few hidden places that offer something special. Having spent a fair bit of time exploring Kalbarri’s food scene, I’ve come across some standout spots that I can personally recommend. Whether you’re after fresh seafood, a hearty pub meal, or something a bit more upscale, here are my top picks for restaurants in Kalbarri.
1. Finlay’s Kalbarri
This place is a bit of an institution in Kalbarri. Finlay’s is famous for its casual, laid-back vibe and incredible seafood. It’s got that outdoor, rustic charm where you can sit under the stars and enjoy the cool evening breeze. I always recommend going for the fresh catch of the day, it’s about as local as you can get, often coming straight from the ocean just hours before it hits your plate.
Local Tip: Head here in the evening when they often have live music. For seafood lovers, the seafood linguine is a must-try. If you’re visiting on a weekend, book ahead. This spot fills up quickly, especially in the summer months.
2. Buddha’s Bites
For something a little different, Buddha’s Bites offers a fresh take on the usual Kalbarri fare. This fusion restaurant combines Asian-inspired flavors with local produce, resulting in dishes that are packed with flavour with a twist. I love stopping here for lunch after a morning of explorin. It’s casual yet full of character, and the food is always good.
I remember trying their Beef Rendang on a friend’s recommendation, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Here’s a tailored local tip for Buddha’s Bites:
Local Tip: If you’re visiting during peak lunch hours, consider calling ahead to order, as it can get busy with both locals and tourists.
3. Kalbarri Skywalk Café
If you’re planning a visit to Kalbarri National Park, stop by the Kalbarri Skywalk Café, it’s a must, not just for the stunning views but also for a great bite to eat. Perched right near the Kalbarri Skywalk, this café offers breathtaking views of the rugged gorges, making it one of the most scenic dining spots in the area.
I’ve found the café to be a perfect spot for a quick bite to eat after hiking around the national park. Their menu is simple, with options like wraps and sandwiches, but it’s exactly what you need after a morning of adventure.
Local Tip: There are gluten-free cake options here. If you’re visiting in the warmer months, grab a cold drink and sit outside on the deck; it’s a wonderful way to soak up the incredible landscape while you refuel.
4. Upstairs Restaurant
For a more upscale dining experience, I highly recommend Upstairs Restaurant. This is where I head for a romantic evening or a special occasion. The setting is intimate, with lovely views of the Murchison River, and the food is just as impressive. They specialise in modern Australian cuisine, with a focus on local ingredients.
Local Tip: For a truly memorable experience, book a table on the balcony around 30 minutes before sunset to enjoy the stunning ocean views while you dine.
5. The Gorges Café
Set right near the Kalbarri Foreshore, The Gorges Café is an excellent spot for breakfast or brunch with a view of the river. This café has a laid-back vibe, and the staff are always friendly. Their coffee is top-notch, and their breakfast menu offers a great variety, from classic bacon and eggs to more adventurous options like their gourmet pancakes.
I once stopped here for breakfast before heading out to the Kalbarri Skywalk. Sitting outside with a cappuccino and a plate of vege fritter and smashed avocado while watching the river flow by was such a peaceful start to the day. It’s become one of my go-to spots when I’m in town.
Local Tip: Try their homemade muesli if you’re after something light and healthy, or their morning cure if you need more fuel for your Kalbarri explorations.
6. Bean Drifting
You won’t find a typical brick-and-mortar café here. Bean Drifting is a mobile coffee van, and it’s a local favourite in Kalbarri. I stumbled upon it by accident one morning and have been hooked ever since. This little van serves up some of the best coffee in town, and it’s perfect for grabbing a quick cup to go while exploring the area.
Local Tip: They often set up near the foreshore, which makes it a great spot to grab your coffee and take a leisurely walk along the water.
Special Mentions: Takeaway & Quick Bites
Sometimes, after a day of exploring Kalbarri’s incredible landscapes, all you want is something quick and satisfying without the need for a sit-down meal. Luckily, Kalbarri has some fantastic takeaway options and quick bites that are perfect for when you’re on the go or just looking for something casual. Here are a few places I’ve found to be excellent for a fast, delicious meal.
1. Kalbarri Pizza & Pasta
When you’re craving a comforting slice of pizza or a hearty bowl of pasta, Kalbarri Pizza & Pasta hits the spot. It’s one of the best places in town for takeaway, offering a range of pizzas with classic and gourmet toppings, as well as a solid selection of pasta dishes. I’ve often grabbed a pizza from here and taken it down to the beach for a sunset picnic.
2. Red Bluff Bakery & Café
Red Bluff Bakery & Café offers a great selection of takeaway options if you’re after something quick. From fresh sandwiches and rolls to baked goods like pies and pastries, it’s a convenient spot to grab a bite before heading out on a day trip or hike. Their baked goods are always fresh, and I’ve found it hard to resist their pies!
Local Tip: If you’re after something sweet, try their danish pastries.
3. Little Leaf Kalbarri
Little Leaf Kalbarri is a relatively new addition to the Kalbarri food scene, but it has quickly gained a loyal following for its fresh, plant-based options and focus on sustainable, locally sourced ingredients.
4. Wild Ocean Indonesian
If you’re after a takeaway and have a craving for authentic Indonesian flavors, I highly recommend Wild Ocean Indonesian. Their Beef Rendang is absolutely delicious – rich, tender, and full of bold spices. If you’re in the mood for something else, their Mee Goreng and Nasi Goreng are also crowd favourites.
This street food truck operates only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, and until 7:00 pm on Sunday.
Local Tip: Due to its popularity, especially during peak times like school holidays, you might experience a bit of a wait, but trust me, it’s worth every minute for a taste of their flavourful dishes.

Kalbarri’s dining scene might be small, but it’s full of variety. From fresh seafood at Finlay’s to plant-based goodness at Little Leaf Kalbarri, you’ll find plenty of options to satisfy your cravings after a day of exploring the stunning landscapes.
