Coalmine Beach Holiday Park Review 2024: An Honest Review

Coalmine Beach Holiday Park is always my accommodation choice when I visit Walpole. I’ve camped there a few times and stayed in their glamping tents. Owning a caravan, I have stayed at numerous caravan parks in the South West.

My review covers all aspects of my stay along with helpful information to make the most of your trip.

There are various accommodation options at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park, including luxury glamping tents, fully equipped en-suite chalets, cabins with shared amenities, and powered and unpowered campsites.

I have camped here and stayed in the glamping tents, which were amazing experiences.

Luxury Glamping Tents

I’d been wanting to try out the glamping tents for a while but couldn’t justify the cost of most of them. When I saw how reasonable they were at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park, I knew I had to try them out.

I booked the Queen Glamping Tent that sleeps four with a queen-size bed in the main area and bunk beds in a partitioned “room.” The main area also has seating that can fit four people with a small kitchen nook with a coffee machine, microwave, toaster, kettle, and small fridge. Various plates, glasses, and utensils are provided. If you want to cook a meal, the camp kitchen is close by with an oven and bbq facilities.

The kitchenette was perfect for morning coffee and a light breakfast as well as cheese and biscuits at sunset.

The bed was comfortable with the added luxury of an electric blanket to warm up the bed on those cold nights (only on the Queen bed). The modern ensuite was spotless with a nice shower, basin, heated towel rail, and toilet.

The oil heater kept the tent warm on the cold mornings, and a fan was provided for warm nights.

Outside table and chairs allow you to sit and enjoy the natural surroundings and listen to the birds. It was my favourite spot to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner.

Coalmine Beach Holiday Park Facilities

There are four camp kitchens, all sparkling clean with fridge/freezer, oven, stove, microwave, toaster, kettle, and table and chairs. It was a great way to socialise with other guests, especially when it rained. There are also four bbq areas.

The small playground opens at 7.30 am until sunset, and the recreation room has a television, couches, and table tennis. Both require adult supervision at all times.

Some sites have fire pits that you can use at certain times of the year. You can purchase wood from reception for A$20 a bag (you get a lot).

The complimentary wi-fi password is provided when you check-in by the friendly staff at reception. You can find the on-site shop here to purchase ice, BBQ meat packs, milk, bread, eggs, ice creams, bait, and a range of grocery items.

How long to stay at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park

There is so much to do in the surrounding area that you should stay for at least three nights at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park to truly see all that Walpole has to offer.

Things to do near Coalmine Beach Holiday Park

There are always plenty of things to do when you stay at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park as it is surrounded by five National Parks and only metres away from Nornalup Inlet’s tranquil waters.

My thoughts on Coalmine Beach Holiday Park

Coalmine Beach Holiday Park is the best caravan park I have stayed at. The camp kitchens are kept spotless, it is quiet and peaceful, with lots of wildlife, including kangaroos, kookaburras, and other birds. Trees shade the campsites, and you can have a fire pit in season with wood being delivered to your site – what service!

The highlight was seeing all the kangaroos hopping around the grounds and hearing the birds sing amongst the trees.

This isn’t a park to choose if you prefer large holiday parks with swimming pools, adventure playgrounds, mini-golf, etc., or want to spend late nights partying, but this is the exact reason I love it. The park is relaxing but still has plenty of things to keep the kids entertained.

Mosquitos can be a bit of a nuisance at certain times of the year, so pack a repellent.

I cannot rate Coalmine Beach Holiday Park high enough. Make sure to book well in advance, especially during school holidays, as it is popular and often booked up.

Coalmine Beach Holiday Park sits right next to Coalmine Beach, Walpole, in Western Australia’s South West region.

How to get to Coalmine Beach Holiday Park

International and domestic visitors will fly into Perth Airport.

Walpole is 412 km from Perth, about a 5-hour drive along State Route 2 and National Route 1.

TransWA runs buses to Albany that stop in Walpole. However, it’s hard to get around this region without a car.

Visitor Tips

From my firsthand experience at Coalmine Beach Holiday Park, here are a few tips for future visitors:

• Plan your visit during the off-peak season to fully enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty without the crowds.
• Packing essentials should include insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes for exploring the surrounding nature trails, and a camera to capture the wildlife and scenic views.
• Remember to bring all necessary camping supplies if you’re staying at a campsite, as the nearest stores are a bit of a drive away.
