I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively within Western Australia, including the quaint country town of Balingup. In this post, I’m sharing my favourite places to stay here.
Balingup, in the Bunbury-Geographe region, is nestled amongst green rolling hills and the beautiful Preston and Blackwood River valleys. This country town makes the ideal weekend getaway from Perth or as a stop on the way to the southern forests or Great Southern region.

4.Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages

Set high in a hilltop forest above the mist line is a magical 46-acre natural bushland property. Six fully self-contained, cosy bush cottages are set apart for privacy with stunning views overlooking the town of Balingup and the fruit orchards below. Each Cottage has a wood fire and its own BBQ on the deck.
It’s a great option for couples, families and small groups looking to getaway from it all and reconnect with nature. Connect with your ‘inner child’ and join the owners, Deb and Brian for the daily farm animal feeding sessions.

5. Balingup Jalbrook Cottages, Jalbrook Estate

Jalbrook Cottages consist of six deluxe rammed earth cottages set amongst private gardens. Four of them are adults-only with hot tubs, king beds, log fires, large day beds and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Red Robin is a two-bedroom cottage, perfect for two couples with queen beds in both bedrooms, and a hot tub spa on the deck.
Blue Wren, another two-bedroom cottage, is ideal for families with a queen-sized bed, two king-sized singles, and a sofa bed.
Electric blankets, spa robes & towels are included, along with a breakfast basket for the first morning with homemade bread, fresh milk, free-range eggs, and local produce in season.
6. Blackwood Inn Innkeepers House
RATING: 9.4⭐️
Blackwood Inn Innkeepers House, a luxury adults-only retreat, is set in the hamlet of Mullalyup. The rooms are spacious and feature lounge areas, gas log fires, mood lighting, and a two-person spa bath. Fresh milk is provided along with a selection of Robert Timms coffees and a variety of Twining’s teas.
A delicious cooked breakfast is included in the tariff and they also offer A la Carte dining for guests each night.

7. Balingup Timbertop Cottages

Timbertop Cottages sits on a 53-acre grazing family farm 9 km from Balingup. Perfect for relaxing and connecting with nature.
There are two self-contained cottages that sleep six people with views of rolling hills and farmland. During winter, snuggle in front of your cosy log fire with a glass of local wine and cheese platter or in warmer months, watch the sun set from your verandah.
Pets allowed on request.
8. Anahito Studio
RATING: 9.5⭐️
This studio apartment has a satellite flat-screen TV, a shower, washing machine and dryer, and a kitchen with a Nespresso machine, fridge, stove, an oven and a microwave. Situated on a 55-acre farm, the views are beautiful from the decking.
Pets allowed.
9. Brookvale House Balingup
RATING: 9.2⭐️
Pavilion Cottage has its own private garden, situated on a 120-year-old property surrounded by mature European trees. This Balingup accommodation is pet-friendly, allowing up to two small dogs. However, if you have two large dogs, please contact the owners to discuss. Your dogs are allowed indoors and there is no extra fee.
The property also has a one-bedroom cottage complete with a fireplace and fully equipped kitchen.

10. Birdwood Park Estate Farm Stay
We stayed at Birdwood Park Estate Farm Stay, a rustic 3-bedroom American-style barn house set on a 17-acre hobby farm bound by Balingup Brook on three sides and the Avenue of Honour on the fourth. The property has a wood burner to keep you warm in the winter and a fully equipped kitchen. The views of the surrounding rolling hills are beautiful, and the farm stay is a perfect base from which to explore Balingup and surrounds.
Our daughters loved the friendly goats, and the fresh bread, cereal, and fruit was a wonderful bonus. The accommodation is pet friendly too.
We booked through Stayz as they were cheaper than Airbnb.
