Why stay at Holiday Inn prior to your cruise in Sydney

Searching for a hotel to stay at before your cruise from Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal? We researched and ended up staying at The Holiday Inn Old Sydney in The Rocks for these reasons:

Holiday Inn Old Sydney Location

Holiday Inn Old Sydney is located in George Street in The Rocks, a stones throw from the Overseas Passenger Terminal. It is literally across the road, down a pathway and then you are there. It took us less than 5 minutes with all our luggage and children.

It’s also a great place to explore and has plenty of restaurants to choose from. Take a look at our post on The Rocks for things to see.

Value for money

Sydney is an expensive place and that includes accommodation. We thought Holiday Inn was mid range and provided good value for where it is located. We did use our points as we are quite loyal to the brand and had accumulated a lot of points from previous hotel stays. Also, as a member, we got a free drink in the Lobby Lounge and free WiFi in the room. It is free to join.

The Room

The room was standard for a Holiday Inn in Australia. It was clean, the beds were comfortable and had hard as well as soft pillows. It was a bit outdated compared to the luxury hotels but had all the amenities you would need.

The roof top pool is quite small but has wonderful views of the Harbour Bridge. We couldn’t see the Opera House as there was a cruise ship in port that day. There is also a hot tub but we didn’t try that out. There aren’t many sun loungers around the pool but plenty of tables and chairs to sit on.

The Playfair Terrace Restaurant overlooks the atrium lobby and is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had dinner there as we were all tired from an overnight flight and a day of sightseeing. The dinner was tasty and good value as we had a deal of the day. We booked The ‘Fresh Start’ breakfast upon check in for $25 (a slight reduction on price) but only had to pay for adults as Kids Eat Free. It was a great buffet with espresso coffee, fresh juice, eggs cooked to order and a great selection of hot and cold foods.

All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially those on the front desk and in the restaurant.

Did you stay in Sydney before a cruise? Where did you stay? Would you recommend it to others? Let me know in the comments.
